Leaders Begin Process To Improve Northern Portion Of Springer Road

With the current construction project on Springer Road winding down, Lawrenceburg leaders have taken the first step toward making improvements to another section of the roadway.

Members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council approved a resolution Thursday to contract with the engineering firm Griggs and Maloney Incorporated, “to provide engineering services for the 2016 Springer Road improvements.”

Mayor Keith Durham explained that the resolution would provide for initial engineering work only. “I asked (Engineer Bill Griggs) to go ahead and get prepared to build the north side since we just did the bond issue to fix the road.”

The current project includes the reconstruction of the roadway between First Street and Weakley Creek Road. Although costs would dictate the length of the roadway improvements, Griggs said he will compile a plan for improvements between Weakley Creek Road and Claymar Avenue. Also included, he said, will be the section that runs from East Gaines Street (Highway 64) to First Street.

As was the case with the current project, Griggs will include sidewalks in the plans. While leaders do not expect to install sidewalks at this time, they said the plans will allow for installation in the future.
