Local man charged with drug offenses
Lawrenceburg Now
A local man garnered drug charges Tuesday after employees of a Lawrenceburg business noticed that he was passed out in a vehicle in their parking lot.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department responded to Quik Mart #6 on East Gaines Street just after 1:00 a.m. When they were able to rouse the man he told them that he was there to buy gas. He was unable to tell them, however, why he was not near the gas pumps.
The man, identified as Jonathon Dewayne Taylor, age 24, of Bailey Springs Road, consented to a search of his vehicle. Officers found a tin inside of a backpack that held three short straws “with a clear-like substance on the ends” along with two small bags that contained a clear crystallized substance. Taylor told officers that the backpack belonged to him, but that the tin and contents were not his.
Taylor was placed under arrest and officers subsequently searched his person, finding a glass pipe in one of his pockets. Taylor told them that the pipe was not his and that he did not know how it got into his pocket.
Taylor was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked on charges of possession of Schedule II narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication. His bond was set at $6,000.
The crystal substance, believed to be methamphetamine, was sent to a lab for analysis.
