Acquaintance who asked to use restroom steals money

Local authorities opened an investigation last week after a Lawrenceburg woman reported that an acquaintance who had asked to use her restroom had apparently stolen her money.

The eighty-one year old victim reported the incident to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department on Thursday. She said that a man with whom she was somewhat familiar had knocked on her door and asked to use her restroom. She said that she allowed him to do so after which he left.

Once the man had left her home, the victim said that she noticed a rubber band lying on her bathroom sink. She said she checked purse where she had kept $900 rolled together and secured with a rubber band, and found that the cash was gone. She told officers that the cash consisted of eight $100 bills and two $50 bills.

Nothing else appeared to be missing from the home. The case currently remains under investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
