Juvenile Assaulted When Home Is Burglarized
An arrest was made in the wake of a burglary incident during which a female juvenile was assaulted.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that the burglary occurred at 27 Walnut Street in Iron City.
When the deputy arrived on the scene he found several persons in the roadway sorting through a pile of clothing and personal belongings. He spoke with the victims, a mother and daughter.
The mother told the deputy that she and her daughter had been out of town. They arrived home to find a window on their home had been broken and several items stolen. She said she “heard a noise coming from up the road” at a Leech Street home. She and her daughter walked to the home and found their belongings in a blue truck.
The mother reported that Julie Flechia Hand, a forty-two year old resident of 55 South Walnut Street, grabbed clothing from the truck and dumped it in the roadway. She said that her fourteen year old daughter began to pick up some of her clothing items. When she and Hand grabbed the same piece of clothing Hand reportedly punched the girl in the face and began to choke her.
The mother told the deputy that the driver of the blue truck pulled away before they could recover their belongings. She estimated their loss at more than $1,700.
As a result of the investigation Hand was placed under arrest. She was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where she was booked on charges of aggravated assault.
