Identification made in fraudulent return of merchandise case

Lawrenceburg Now

A man who fraudulently returned merchandise to obtain cash at a Lawrenceburg store last week was identified after presenting his driver’s license during the return process.

Loss Prevention personnel at Walmart filed a complaint with the Lawrenceburg Police Department last week, identifying the thirty-six year old Waynesboro resident.

They said that while reviewing security video, they noticed that the man had taken a weedeater battery, valued at $54.74, from a shelf in the garden center, then exited the building without paying for it. Video showed that the man walked to his vehicle in the parking lot and discarded one of the two shirts he was wearing. He then took the battery back inside and obtained a refund in the form of a gift card, at the Customer Service desk.

Walmart officials told officers that they do intend to prosecute the man on theft charges.
