Former employee attempts to be compensated twice for last paycheck

Lawrenceburg Police officers received a complaint from an employee of a local business Monday, indicating that a former employee who had picked up her final paycheck was able to deposit the check into her bank account before having it cashed at the store.

The complaint was filed by an employee of Kountry Kupboard on Highway 43 South at around 2:30 Monday afternoon. The employee told officers that a nineteen year old Five Points resident had stopped by to pick up her final paycheck about a week prior. She said that the woman had walked around inside the store for a few minutes before asking that she cash the check for her.

After a few days, owners noticed a $10 charge that had been added to their account for a “bad check.” They discovered that while inside the store, the woman had digitally deposited the check into her bank account before approaching the cashier to obtain cash for it. The check was for the amount of $88.51.

The matter currently remains under investigation.
