LCHS Shooting Team results
Shawn Walters/ LCHS Shooting Team Assistant Coach
LCHS Shooting team season is still in full swing as they took the podium with gold in two classes at the ATA/AIMS Trap shoot in Christiana, TN on June 11th. In team awards, Varsity 1 Squad won 1st place in the Junior C Division while a combined squad of Varsity 2 and Junior Varsity won 1st place in the Junior D Division.
Rhett Yates was awarded an individual award for High Over-All Runner Up in the Junior Division with a 97 score and Connor Walters won Runner Up in the B Class. Yates also was awarded 25 straight and 50 straight patches, while Chase Clayton and Evan Johns were awarded 25 straight patches.
Although school is out for summer break, the LCHS Shooting Team continues completion through June 25th which will be the Scholastic Clay Target Program’s State Championship to be held at the Nashville Gun Club.
Schools from all over the state will be coming to Nashville for the 2 day Trap event. This year there will be 56 Junior Varsity Squads and 102 Varsity Squads competing. Head Coach Greg Holt said, “The State Championship is what it is all about! We practice hard and attend shoots from March-June, but the State Championship is our goal. We have the capability to bring a State Championship Trophy back to Lawrence County this year if all our shooters perform the way I’ve seen them shoot at one time or another throughout the season. Many of the Seniors this year were on the team as Freshmen four years ago and brought back a 3rd place State win and I would love nothing more than to see this team wearing gold metals on June 25th”.
