Estrada Sentenced To 12 Years On Attempted Murder Conviction
A Columbia man has been sentenced to serve twelve years imprisoned after having been convicted of attempted second degree murder last month.
Mario Estrada, age 31, stood trial in May in connection with the January 1, 2014 stabbing incident that left Rabbit Trail Road, Leoma, resident Randall Charles Davis, age 32, suffering serious injuries.
A jury found Estrada guilty as charged after listening to two days of testimony. Estrada allegedly went to the Davis home with his girlfriend, Crystal Carranza, who is also Davis’ sister-in-law. Testimony revealed that Davis and Carranza became involved in a scuffle and that Davis “put her on the floor” to prevent her from assaulting him.
Estrada then reportedly began stabbing Davis with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds to his head, face and neck. Seven of the wounds required stitches. Davis was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for medical care.
Witnesses testified that Estrada and Carranza fled from the scene. They were later captured in Maury County after ramming a patrol car and leading officers there on a foot chase.
Estrada will be required to serve thirty percent of his sentence, or four years, before being considered as a candidate for parole.
