Annual Fireworks Display Will Be Held August 15
Work continues in preparation for Babe Ruth World Series
City of Lawrenceburg officials said Thursday that their annual fireworks display, normally held on July 4, has been scheduled for Saturday, August 15.
A scheduling problem prevented the show from being held on Independence Day. Instead, this year’s display will be held in conjunction with the Babe Ruth World Series that will be held in Lawrenceburg August 13th through 20th.
During a meeting of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council Thursday morning City Attorney Alan Betz, a representative of the local Babe Ruth league, said that many improvements have been made at Bobby Brewer Memorial Park in preparation for the series.
“It’s unbelievable the transformation that’s taking place up there,” Betz told council members. “I promise you it’s going to be a showpiece. It’s going to be something that you guys are going to be awfully proud of.”
Betz said that work thus far, “It’s just changed the look of the ballpark. It used to come into a V and now we’ve squared it off with the new bleachers. We moved the existing bleachers from the third base side of Tom Crews field to the first base side and doubled those and got the new set of bleachers to replace those. In essence we’ve doubled the seating at Tom Crews field and probably ten times as much seating on Denver Trapp field.”
Betz said that a crew of volunteers has been installing metal fencing at Denver Trapp field. New bleachers have been installed at the fields and a new concession stand is awaiting the series, as well. The city’s Public Works Department and Lawrenceburg Utility Systems employees have been working diligently to finish the work by the start of the series, less than nine weeks from now.
