Cat killing results in criminal trespassing charge
Lawrenceburg Now
A report from a citizen regarding a cat being killed at a local apartment complex resulted in charges of criminal trespassing being issued against a Lawrenceburg man Wednesday.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, officers were dispatched to Pine Bluff Apartments on Bluff Drive at around 2:20 p.m. They spoke with a witness who reported that a man had killed a cat behind the apartment complex. The witness said that the man then went inside of one of the apartments.
Officers went to the specified apartment where they made contact with the suspect, twenty-seven year old James Kenneth Laws, III. When confronted, Laws told officers that the cat he killed had been in poor health and “he was killing it for his mother.”
Because Laws had previously been warned by the property manager not to be on the premises, he was placed under arrest on the criminal trespassing charge and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. He was incarcerated under a $1,000 bond and scheduled an appearance in General Sessions Court for July 7, 2017.
