Lawrenceburg Kroger Associate Wins Competition At Tennessee Grocers Convention
An associate of the Lawrenceburg Kroger store took home the state title of “Best Bagger” in a competition at the Tennessee Grocers & Convenience Store Association (TGCSA) convention held in Chattnooga on Friday.
After being named the winner in the bag-off at the local store, Hayden Ragan, age 18, went on to claim the Best Bagger title at the district level, then the Nashville Division. This earned him a spot in Friday’s state completion.
Judges rated competitors in the categories of speed, bag-building technique, weight distribution between bags, style, attitude, and appearance. Along with the title, Ragan was awarded a $750 TGCSA scholarship and a $250 National Grocers Association (NGA) scholarship.
With the state title under his belt, Ragan will now move on to the national competition at the NGA convention to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada in February.
Ragan says, “I am proud to have won this contest, and am excited about the chance to compete at Nationals.” He said the scholarship money will come in handy when he begins his freshman year at the University of Tennessee this fall.
Lawrenceburg Kroger Manager Mike Calloway said, “We are so proud of Hayden. He is a great young man with a bright future, and we know he will represent us well in the National competition.”
