Woman is charged after giving false information to officers at crash scene
Lawrenceburg Now
Charges resulted late last week after a local woman allegedly gave false information to police officers at the scene of an automobile accident.
Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that an officer on patrol had stopped at what he believed to be a crash scene on Weakley Creek Road and spoke with twenty-seven year old Bobbi Joe Mullin of 1699 Lance Drive. He reports that she first told him that “the people involved in the crash had driven off.” He noted, “She was acting very suspicious and seemed to want me to leave.”
The officer noticed a vehicle sitting next to them in a parking lot that had sustained heavy damage to the front end. At this point, he reports that Mullin, “Was trying to get another female to take her kids and leave.”
Mullin admitted that the damaged vehicle belonged to her, but told the officer that she had left it in the parking lot the previous night. Reports show that the vehicle’s engine was still hot, there were liquids draining underneath, and “there was still dust from the air bag deployment coming from inside.”
The officer again questioned Mullin about the crash. At that point, he reports that she admitted she had been involved in the crash, but told him that “she didn’t report it because the girl driving the other vehicle asked her not to due to not having insurance.”
The officer was given entirely different details when he spoke with the second driver. She told him that Mullins had offered to report the accident and that she had been waiting for officers to arrive. She said that prior to the officer’s arrival “she (Mullin) had tried to get her parents to take her kids because she was going to jail for a suspended license.” He also learned that Mullin’s three children had been inside the vehicle during the crash.
The officer requested that emergency medical personnel respond to the scene to ensure that the children were not injured. They determined that the oldest child had sustained some minor bruising on the chest from the seat belt, but all of the parties involved received medical clearance.
The officer found that Mullin’s driver’s license had previously been suspended for failure to pay child support. As a result, she was placed under arrest. She was booked at the Lawrence County Detention Center on the charge and was also issued citations on charges of failure to exhibit due care, failure to provide proof of insurance, failure to report an accident, and giving false information to a police officer.
Mullin was incarcerated under a bond of $2,000 and was scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions court on July 1, 2016.
The children were released into the custody of their father.
