Shoplifter allegedly brought drugs into jail
Lawrenceburg Now
A local woman who was arrested in connection with a shoplifting incident last week garnered additional charges when drugs were found in her possession while she was being processed at the jail.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, officers were dispatched to Quik Mart #30 at 2100 North Locust Avenue around 2:20 Thursday morning regarding a shoplifter. When they spoke with store personnel, they learned that the woman, identified as Lori Anne Potts, 39, of 410 Belew Drive, had picked up $187.53 worth of merchandise, then left on foot without paying for the items.
Officers made contact with Potts at the Helton Drive/North Locust Avenue intersection and report that she had the stolen merchandise in her possession. They learned that she had two outstanding warrants for back child support, as well.
Potts was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where, during processing, they found that she had a pill bottle that contained twelve pills identified as Xanax. They report that she had previously denied having any drugs in her possession.
Potts was incarcerated on charges of theft of property, possession of Schedule IV narcotics, and introduction of contraband into a penal facility. She will answer the charges in General Sessions Court on July 2, 2016.
