Owner Charged With Animal Cruelty After Dog Is Extricated From Wire
Authorities report that a dog owner was charged with animal cruelty last week for failing to render aid to her dog, found to be injured and entrapped in some wire.
An anonymous tip led officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department to a Sixth Street home where they report finding a dog lying half inside/half outside of a dog house with its back leg entangled in some wire.
The officer noted that the dog “was in pain and howling,” and had apparently been doing so for an extended period of time. A neighbor reported being awakened by the dog’s howls. Wire cutters were used to cut the entrapped dog free. The officer noted that the dog’s leg was swollen and unable to bear weight.
The neighbor pointed out that a second dog was lying dead in a pen near the alleyway. The officer noted finding a pit bull-mix, dead in its pen, lying beneath a building. The neighbor said the dog had died a few days prior.
When the owner arrived on the scene she told officers that she had not known that her dog had died, and said that “her sons won’t help her with the animals.”
Three additional dogs were found inside the house. The Animal Control Officer informed the officer that the woman was already facing animal cruelty charges in court. She advised her to have the owner seek medical care for the injured dog and to seize any dogs that appeared to be malnourished. Two of the inside dogs were taken to the animal shelter to receive proper care. The third inside dog, the owner said, would be sent to another home.
As a result of the incident the owner, Kathy Lynn Pearson, age 50, was issued citations for two additional counts of animal cruelty.
