ALERRT Active Shooter Training
Press release
The Lawrenceburg Police Department will be hosting two consecutive active shooter trainings, beginning next Monday, June 5th, 2017. The classes will be 16 hours each. The first session will be Monday and Tuesday.
Session # 2 will be Wednesday and Thursday. The classes will be held at Lawrence County High School on Springer Road. The general public should expect to see police cars from many different agencies across Middle Tennessee.
There will be no live ammunition fired in or around the building. Simunition rounds will be used for the training. These type rounds are safe for officers to use for training purposes.
Any media that wants to attend a briefing for event layout, or a photo op, should be at the Lawrence County High School no later than 8:15 a.m. on Monday morning.
The Lawrenceburg Police Department would request that local media relay to Lawrenceburg citizens the reason for large turnout of police vehicles at Lawrence County High School.
Any Nashville or Huntsville Media stations that would like to attend, please e-mail me or give me a call we will assist you with directions and setting up.
The Lawrenceburg Police Department would like to give a special thanks to Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, University of North Alabama, Spring Hill P.D., and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency for providing ALERRT trainers. This training has been provided to Middle Tennessee officers at no cost by funding from Department of Justice. The ALERRT program stands for Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training. Two additional sessions will be held in July, beginning July 17-20. We look forward to training 120 Middle Tennessee officers on how to properly respond to an active shooter at a school, business, or place of worship in our community. We would also like to give a special thanks to Mr. Michael Adkins, with Lawrence County High School for his cooperation and willingness to assist Law Enforcement in this endeavor.
