Resident of Fifth Street reports identity theft
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officers opened an investigation into allegations of identity theft, reported by a Lawrenceburg man recently.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department officers spoke with a Fifth Street resident who said that someone had fraudulently used his identity to accumulate nearly $6,500 in debt.
The forty-eight year old victim told officers that someone had used his name and Social Security number to obtain a loan online in the amount of $310 from Speedy Cash. He said that a second loan, in the amount of $957.70, had been obtained under his name online from CashNet USA. The victim said that he had no knowledge of the loans until he began to receive “past due” notices.
After making the discovery, the victim said he inspected his checking account and found that an acquaintance had forged his signature while writing a check to herself for $5,156. He told officers that he suspected the woman was responsible for all three crimes.
Investigation into the crimes is currently on-going through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
