Fraud incidents reported to law enforcement officials
Lawrenceburg Now
Local residents recently requested that law enforcement officials initiate investigations into incidents involving fraudulent withdrawals from their bank accounts.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department spoke with the first victim who said that someone had been using his debit card without his permission. He said that he had noticed a few minor discrepancies, but that he had not believed that they were severe enough to warrant a police report. The previous day, however, he found that someone had used his information for a transaction totaling $363.
Bank officials were able to track the location where the charges originated, indicating that it was the Tennessee Department of Safety. Officials there provided the victim with the name of an individual who had reportedly used the debit information to have a driver’s license reinstated. They told the victim that the amount would be refunded to his account, but that the transaction could take up to two weeks.
Lawrenceburg Police officers were recently called to Kountry Kupboard in the Dunn community to speak with a fraud victim. She said that she had recently reported to Loretto Police officers that her credit card and checks had been stolen. Since that time, she said she has learned of several fraudulent uses and forgeries in the Leoma and Lawrenceburg areas, including at that market. Six of the transactions combined, she said, totaled approximately $500.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the complaints at the present time. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s department at 931-762-3626 or the Lawrenceburg Police Department at 931-762-2276.
