Arrest made in Loretto burglary-in-progress

Press release from Loretto Police Department

In the early morning hours of Tuesday May 15th, our night-shift officer was dispatched to a burglary in progress at a residence on 3rd Ave. North.

A neighbor reported seeing an individual enter a home and that this subject was still inside after officers arrived. Attempts to get the subject to open the door failed and the property owner gave permission for forcible entry to be made.

Once inside our officer, along with deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dept., found Johnathon Bogus hiding in the bathroom floor. A search of the outside of the home found that several tools and other items had been removed prior to the officer’s arrival.

Bogus was charged with aggravated burglary, theft of property, and resisting arrest. He was given a free ride to the Lawrence County Jail.

Following up on the burglary the next morning, our day-shift officer developed information a stolen motorcycle was at another property on Beartown Road. This motorcycle was confirmed to have been stolen out of Lauderdale County Alabama the previous night.

The motorcycle was recovered, and the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Dept. was contacted. As the investigation proceeds, additional charges will be sought at a later date.
