Local man arrested on kidnapping and rape charges

Authorities indicate that a Lawrenceburg man was arrested on charges of kidnapping, assault and rape in the course of an investigation that took place Thursday.

Officials report that officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched after a female victim placed a call for assistance. As a result of the ensuing investigation, they report that twenty-seven year old James Alexander Shoumake was arrested.

Shoumake was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, and rape. Bond was set at $125,000.

At the current time investigation in the case is on-going through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
