Resident’s identity used to obtain utility services
Lawrenceburg Now
An investigation was initiated last week when a local resident reported to authorities that someone had used her identity in order to illegally obtain utility services.
The seventy- year old victim reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies that she had been notified about a letter that had been delivered to an Adkins Lane address in her name. She found that the letter was from Lawrenceburg Utility Systems, indicating that her bank had returned a bank draft of $319 for services rendered.
The victim told deputies that she was not the person who opened the account. She said that she had lived at an address on Adkins Lane four years prior, but not at the house number listed. Also, she said that the debit card used to pay the bill was from an account she closed in October of 2014. The letter was also addressed to a man with whom she had never resided.
According to the victim, power system officials indicated that a man had paid the bill by phone, using the debit card information.
Investigation in the matter is on-going.
