Second report of counterfeit bills passed at business in Amish community
Authorities urge residents to be cautious
Lawrenceburg Now
Authorities received a second report last week regarding counterfeit money being passed at a business in the Amish community, and authorities are urging members of the community to be cautious when making sales.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Plowboy Auction House on South Brace Road on Wednesday where they spoke with the victim. He said that his wife had made a sale two days prior and later brought to his attention a suspicious $100 bill. He told deputies that the bill had been passed by a woman traveling in a white car.
This was the second such report taken by deputies last week regarding the passing of a counterfeit $100 bill at an Amish business. Deputies had spoken with a victim on Monday who reported his daughter had accepted a counterfeit $100 as payment for $3 worth of squash.
Due to the similarity of the two crimes, deputies urged the victim “to spread the word through his community regarding the car and the woman.”
Both cases currently remain under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has pertinent information should contact the sheriff’s department at 931-762-3626.
