Counterfeit bill passed at Amish vegetable stand
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officers were called upon to investigate after counterfeit money was passed at an Amish vegetable stand in Ethridge.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the Rushing Road home Monday morning where they met with the resident. He told them that his daughter had been working the family vegetable stand around 10:30, waiting on a female customer who was interested in purchasing $3 worth of squash.
The woman paid using a $100 bill and was given $97 in change. He said when his daughter gave him the money she had collected he could tell right away that the bill was counterfeit. He verified that fact using a counterfeit detector pen, then went to a neighbor’s house to call and request intervention by law enforcement officers.
The daughter was able to provide deputies with a description of the woman, the car in which she was traveling, and the male driver. The matter currently remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
