Victim says ruse was used to lure him from his home during burglary

The victim of a recent home burglary told police officers that he believed a ruse had been used to lure him from his home so that it could be burglarized.

The thirty-five year old West Point Road resident filed a report with the Lawrenceburg Police Department last week regarding the crime. He said that he had received a call from his cousin who claimed to be stranded in the West Point area. He asked that he come to the location and help him get some gasoline.

The victim said that he left his home unsecured, believing that he would be back quickly. He returned to find that someone had stolen his 32” television and HP laptop computer with a combined value of $900.

The victim told officers that the cousin has stolen from family members in the past and felt that he was behind the theft. No sign of forced entry was found.

At the present time the burglary remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
