Drug charge
A police officer stopped a vehicle with expired tags during the weekend and discovered that the driver was in possession of around two grams of marijuana along with drug paraphernalia. Mary Susan Carvell, 47, of 502 Daniel Drive was issued citations charging her with simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and expired registration. She is set to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 2, 2017.
Theft
Sixth Street resident Amanda Michelle Binkley, 42, was cited on a theft charge Saturday after an employee of Cash Savers reported she had concealed merchandise in her purse in an attempt to shoplift them. The items, including a package of sliced ham, Alpo beef stew, and two air fresheners, had a combined value of $4.37. Officers report that Binkley confessed committing the crime, saying that she had taken the items because she was hungry.

Officers were dispatched to a College Avenue home Sunday where two individuals reported that someone had stolen some of their prescription medications. Both told officers they suspected the pills had been taken by a temporary caregiver. Loss was said to be $125.

Sunday evening officers spoke with a teen who reported that around $740 worth of his belongings had been stolen by his former roommates. He reported that he had been living with a couple on Hannon Drive and had been “kicked out” a few weeks prior. He said that he had received text messages telling him not to come back to the residence and that he could not retrieve his belongings. He said he was able to retrieve some of his belongings, but that he believed the couple had moved to Alabama before he could obtain the remaining items. Missing were his Xbox One with controllers, headset and five games, two Guitar Heroes guitars and sensors, and a food stamp card.
Auto burglary
Police officers investigated the burglary of a dump truck at Inman Excavating on Short Avenue last week. Owners reported that the truck had been broken into while parked in the business’ parking lot. A Midland CB radio was missing along with an unknown brand 16 channel VHF radio. Loss was estimated at $400.
Burglary
A Jacobs Drive resident reported arriving home from work to find someone had let his dog out and his door was standing halfway open. An Xbox 360 console was missing along with two controllers and a game, with a collective value of $925.
Vandalism
Around $10,000 worth of damage was reported at a Redbox unit located at 246 East Gaines Street last week. An employee who services the machines reported that someone had apparently backed a vehicle into the kiosk, causing the damage.

A Bluff Drive resident filed a complaint with police officers, indicating that someone had scratched the paint on a 2007 Volvo CX7 and broke the gas cap lock, resulting in damages of $700.
Burglary
Officers responded to Cecile Street where the property owner reported that someone had stolen a small yellow wagon used in yard work, out of an outbuilding. The wagon had an estimated value of $150.
Vandalism
The manager at Park Ridge Estates on Good Hope Road reported around $1,200 worth of damage to grass at the apartment complex. Witnesses reported the damage had been caused by some young men who lived nearby.
Theft
Police officers were asked to look into a theft incident that occurred at a Sixth Street home in Lawrenceburg. The owner, who lives out of town, reported that he had been at the home recently and that a guest stole his white and gold iPhone 6s, valued at $750.

A resident of Evans Drive reported discovering around $20 worth of damage to her porch screen after an intoxicated person was arrested in her driveway recently.

Officer spoke with a Poplar Street resident who reported around $20 worth of prescription pills had gone missing from her home.

A Buffalo Road resident reported that someone had done around $1,275 worth of damage to his 1998 Nissan KXS. The victim said that in the early hours that morning, someone had cut all four tires, broke the windshield, scratched the month and year from the license plate, and put sugar in the gas tank. He said the brake line had been cut the previous day, but that he had not reported it at that time.
