Wanted fugitive apprehended in ballpark

On May 1, 2017, Investigators with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Drug Division received information of the whereabouts of a wanted fugitive, Dewey Seth Richards.

Richards was wanted for a violation of parole warrant which was issued in March of 2017. Richards had been able to elude authorities since the warrant was issued and the case had recently been adopted by the US Marshalls Office.

Investigators with Drug Division received information that Richards was at Bobby Brewer Park and upon arrival he was located in a dugout of one of the ball fields.

Investigators approached Richards and asked that he come speak with them so the matter could be handled away from the ball field. Richards stepped away from the investigators and began to flee across the ball field.

Richards was apprehended in the area of centerfield by pursuing officers. Richards was placed under arrest for the parole violation. Subsequent to the arrest, Richards was found to be in possession of a schedule II controlled substance for the purpose of resale.

Dewey Seth Richards (25) of Leoma, TN, was booked into the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges of violation of parole, possession of a controlled substance for resale schedule II, and evading arrest. He is being held without bond.
