Intoxicated driver involved in crash found to be in possession of firearm
Lawrenceburg Now
An intoxicated driver involved in a crash Wednesday was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm.
The crash occurred just after 10:00 a.m. at the North Locust Avenue/Third Street intersection. Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department report that when the driver, fifty-eight year old William Ray Crosby of Palmer Street, exited his vehicle he “almost fell backwards back into the truck.” They report that he was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech, and had difficulty multitasking.
While speaking with officers Crosby reportedly admitted that he had taken prescription pain medication as well as a muscle relaxer earlier in the day. In addition, he told officers that he had smoked marijuana the previous day.
Officers searched Crosby’s truck and report finding a loaded .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun in the driver’s side floorboard. In addition, they report seizing from the driver’s door a plastic container that held two marijuana cigarettes and a pair of hemostats.
Crosby was jailed at the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, simple possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
Crosby is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 2, 2017.
