Driver rams pedestrian with car, then flees
Lawrenceburg Now
An investigation was begun early Sunday after a 911 call revealed that a pedestrian had been struck by a car, and that the driver had fled the scene.
Lawrenceburg Police officers arrived at the Hoover Street location just before 12:30 a.m. where they report that the victim was “standing and talking” to Emergency Medical Service personnel. The man told them that he needed to sit down at which point, officers report, “he fell on his back.”
Two witnesses reported that they and the victim, a twenty-eight year old resident of Skyline Drive, had been walking along Hoover Street when the driver intentionally swerved, striking the victim. In a statement, the female witness said that she had seen “a girl running to her vehicle saying she was going to hit someone with her car.” She told officers that she, “Ran after her to try to stop her and she got in a black two-door Mustang and squealed her tires” while accelerating. She said that the woman accelerated to around thirty miles per hour, nearly struck her, then “swerved to purposely hit (the victim)”. She said the victim “went onto the hood and flew up in the air about eight to ten feet and landed in the grass.”
The male witness told officers that the driver had pulled out of the nearby Kingdom Worship Church parking lot. He said that he was on one side of the street and the female witness on the other, both “screaming for the driver to stop.” He said that after striking the victim, the driver fled in an unknown direction. He said that the window tint was too dark to allow for a positive identification of the driver.
Officers report that the victim was checked by EMS personnel, but that he refused further treatment.
Investigation into the crime is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
