Woman distracts Lawrenceburg man with a hug while his money is stolen
Lawrenceburg Now
Local law enforcement officers were called upon to investigate late Friday when a Lawrenceburg man reported that a woman had distracted him with a hug while another person stole money from his wallet.
The seventy-two year old victim spoke with Lawrenceburg Police officers at his Bluff Drive apartment at around 11:30 p.m. He said that four people had stopped by to visit that evening. He said that one woman hugged him, expressing concern over a recent stroke.
He told officers that he believed this to be a ruse intended to distract him. He said that that he believes that it was at this point that a male visitor got into his wallet and stole $1,500 in cash. He said that he had withdrawn the funds from his bank account just two days prior.
The victim told officers that he found a wallet belonging to the named suspect lying next to a chair, just outside of his apartment.
The victim reported that he had gone to his bank the previous day and discovered that the suspect had attempted to cash two different checks against his account. The checks were made out to the named suspect. Bank officials had declined to cash them.
The two checks and wallet were collected as evidence. Investigation into the crime is on-going at the current time.
