Tuesday Crime Report
Shoplifting
Police officers arrested fifty-four year old Gregory Wayne Melton of 1900 North Locust Avenue, Lawrenceburg, after being summoned to Walmart last week to investigate a shoplifting case. Security personnel reported seeing Melton conceal several items of merchandise in his pants and jacket, then walk past the checkout counter in the Garden Center, without paying for them. He will answer the shoplifting charge in General Sessions Court on April 25.
Theft
Police officers were called to a Sixth Street home on Thursday where the resident reported that someone had stolen her Taurus Judge .45 caliber revolver, valued at more than $400. She contacted officers the following day to say that she believed she had recovered the firearm. Officers attempted to verify that it was her gun, but found that the serial number had been tampered with. They took the weapon into custody so that they could investigate further.
Vandalism
Around $500 worth of damage was reported by a Gimlet Road resident Thursday when he discovered that someone had shot his Forest River Cardinal, pull-behind camper. He found the bullet at the scene. He told officers he had no idea who had committed the crime.
Theft
On Thursday a resident of Third Street reported to police officers that $113 worth of her clothes had been stolen out of her closet. She told officers that she had found her boyfriend at the home with another woman two days before, and that her clothing might have been stolen at that time.
Theft
A twenty-six year old Mahr Avenue resident reported to police officers last week that someone had stolen his phone and wallet out of his 1998 Buick. He said he noticed the items were missing after giving a friend a ride home. He estimated his loss to be $73.
