Burglar cleans out storage unit set for auction
When owners went to prepare the contents of a storage unit set for auction last Wednesday, they found that the entire space had been cleaned out, with the exception of one small container.
Owners of SDS Properties, LLC, reported the incident to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department just before 10:00 a.m. They said that the individual who rented the space had fallen behind on rental payments and had subsequently been given a thirty-day notice, notifying her that the items in the unit would be auctioned so that they might recoup the money owed them. In response, they said the renter called to complain, using abusive language.
The owners reported that they had checked to see whether there was anything in the unit, using a ladder to peek over the top. They found that it had been completely full. When they cut the lock off Wednesday morning, however, they discovered that the unit had been emptied. The only thing left inside, they said, was a small container filled with vacuum cleaner attachments.
The victims reported that some wires above the roll-up door had been cut in order to gain access. They said they believed that the person responsible had used one of their ladders, stored nearby, to cut the wires.
Investigation into the crime is currently on-going through the police department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
