Tip leads to one arrest on narcotics charges
Lawrenceburg Now
A tip received through the Lawrenceburg Police Department recently led to the arrest of a Torges Street resident on narcotics charges.
According to department reports, detectives had received a tip regarding possible drug activity being conducted at the 312 Torges Street home of thirty-five year old Corericko “Rick” Casharon Black. When they arrived at the property, they were able to make contact with a man who was sitting on the front porch. When they asked him whether Black was there, the man, later identified as Black, told them that he was not. They requested to see his identification and he told them that it was inside the house. He reportedly told them to “come on in and he would get it for them.”
A detective followed Black inside. When he went into a restroom “to change his pants” and attempted to close the door, the detective ordered him to leave the door open for officer safety. The detective reports that it was at this point that he noticed Black putting something into a clothes basket in the bathroom.
The detective told Black to exit the bathroom and he did so, then walked into a bedroom. The detective followed. He said that Black moved to the opposite side of the bed where he began to reach into his pockets and bend down beside the bed. Fearing for his safety, the detective drew his weapon and ordered Black to show him his hands. He said that it appeared that Black was either trying to place something under or retrieve something from beneath the bed. The detective ordered Black to remain still, then had him slowly move away from the bed.
The detective walked around the bed and noticed a plastic baggy lying on the floor, partially hidden beneath the bed. The substance inside, which weighed in at 2.5 grams, was identified as crack cocaine. When the detective bent down to retrieve the baggie, he reports noticing a zipper bag lying next to it. Inside, he found an unloaded Hi Point .40 caliber handgun. The detective then checked the bathroom clothes basket and found Black’s wallet, which contained his ID.
The handgun and crack were seized into evidence along with $118 in cash. Because Black was unemployed at that time, the money was believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug transactions.
Warrants were obtained against Black, charging him with the crime of possession of narcotics for the purpose of resale. Because he was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, he was additionally charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
