Qualifying period for May 1 Primary comes to a close

Early voting underway in Loretto election

The qualifying period for the May 1 County Primary election drew to a close on Thursday.

In the Republican Primary, voters will select a candidate for sheriff. Both Jarvis Curtis and John C. Myers are vying for that slot. Incumbent County Executive T.R. Williams is unopposed, as is incumbent Lawrence County Road Superintendent Donnie J. Brown.

Of those listed on the Democrat Primary ballot, only Incumbent County Clerk Chuck Kizer is opposed. Nick Moore qualified to run against Kizer. Unopposed candidates include: Incumbent Sheriff Jimmy Brown, Incumbent Circuit Court Clerk Debbie Riddle and Incumbent County Trustee Kiley Weathers.

The early voting period for the May 1 County Primary will get underway on Wednesday, April 11th and will end on Thursday, April 26.

The early voting period for the April 24 Loretto City Election is currently underway. Early voting there will draw to a close on Thursday, April 19th. Only two seats on the city’s Board of Aldermen will appear on the ballot. Incumbent candidates, Mayor Jesse Turner and Alderman Steve McMasters are both running unopposed.

Voters who wish to participate in early voting for either election may do so by stopping by the offices of the Lawrence County Election Commission on Centennial Boulevard in Lawrenceburg.
