Authorities report man who took dropped cash refused to return it
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officials were asked to investigate Friday when employees of a local business reported that a man had picked up cash that had inadvertently been dropped by another customer, but refused to return it.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, officers were called to 3D Financial on North Locust Avenue at around 12:30 p.m. An assistant manager reported that a seventy-two year old customer had been unaware that he had dropped cash on the floor when he left the business. He returned shortly afterwards, saying that he was missing $350.
A review of security footage showed another customer picking up the cash from the floor and placing it in his pocket. The assistant manager told officers that she confronted the man when he returned to the business shortly afterwards. He reportedly admitted that he had taken the money, but she said that “he refused to return it and said he had already spent it.” She said the man told her she should “let the police handle it.”
Officers report making contact with the man at an apartment on Lawrence Street. They asked him about the money and report that he admitted that he had picked it up. While $350 was reported missing, the man said he had only picked up $50. He also admitted to officers that he had already spent the money.
Investigation in the case is ongoing at the present time.
