Considerable damages reported in East Lawrence due to brush fire

Thousands of dollars worth of damages were reported Sunday morning after a brush fire began to spread, requiring intervention by area firefighters.

Officials with the New Prospect Fire Department report that members were dispatched to the scene of the brush fire on Brannon Road at 11:20 a.m. Assisting them were members of the Gandy, Lawrenceburg, and Crossroads Fire Departments. The fire had reportedly spread to a nearby structure and a tractor, and was continuing to spread in the direction of other storage structures and one home.

Department officials reported, “First arriving units were able to quickly stop the progressive fire from spreading to the neighboring buildings.” Once they had halted the progress of the blaze, firefighters report that they were then able to extinguish flames that were consuming the “initially-involved” storage structure.

Officials estimated that damages resulting from the fire totaled $20,000.
