Reagan Thompson, senior of Lawrence County High School took part in U.S. National Security Forum in Washington
Reagan Thompson, senior of Lawrence County High School took part in U.S. National Security Forum in Washington, D.C. Spring National Youth Leadership Forum Provides Insight on Diplomacy, Intelligence & Defense Washington, D.C. – Outstanding high school students from across the nation took part in a unique career development opportunity this spring, the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): National Security – Diplomacy, Intelligence & Defense, an Envision program.
She was nominated by LCHS Teacher, Jerry Thomas. The forum, held each spring and fall in Washington, D.C., introduces students to firsthand experiences and challenging career options in national security and related fields.
The curriculum for the six-day forum is based on actual world events. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, leadership abilities and public speaking skills to tackle the complexity of national decision-making in the face of a challenge, crisis or conflict. “Through specialized simulations, the program puts students in the driver’s seat to plan for peace and preparing for crisis,” said Marguerite Regan, Ph.D., Dean of Academic Affairs for Envision and NYLF National Security. “The combination of interacting with professionals and with other students in this setting ensures that future leaders are being developed so that our nation’s future remains bright.”
Students also have the opportunity to meet with highly respected policy makers, military leaders and other experts in the field. Leading institutions – the CIA, the Pentagon, the U.S. Naval Academy and a variety of embassies, for example – have opened their doors to students, giving them a behind-the scenes view of national security in action.
An exclusive career fair provides students with insight into national security career options and connects them with representatives from federal agencies and service academies. NYLF National Security is part of the Envision family of programs (www.envisionexperience.com), which enable students of all ages to explore their interests and gain learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Since 1985, Envision programs have served more than 800,000 students in more than 145 countries, with programs designed to help students develop the leadership, scholarship and career skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive college and career landscape. Ms. Thompson is completing the Project Lead the way curriculum with Mr. Paul Kersey while at Lawrence County High School. She will begin seeking a degree in computer science from the University of Alabama at Huntsville in the fall. She dreams of being a computer scientist of intelligence analyst for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C.
