Woman trapped inside burning car is rescued by heroic actions of State Trooper

Lawrenceburg Now

A Lawrence County resident who had become trapped inside her burning car after a crash Tuesday afternoon is still alive thanks to the heroic actions of a local Trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Officials report that the crash occurred on U.S. Highway 43 in Maury County, just north of Summertown. The driver, Greta Bivens, had become trapped inside after her car sustained damage around the doors, and was unable to escape.

Trooper Zac Newton was traveling in the vicinity and spotted the burning car. Officials say that he quickly used his baton to break the passenger side rear window, then pulled Bivens out of the wreckage. Within a few seconds, flames fully engulfed the car.

Bivens was transported to Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia for treatment of what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
