Bank officials report near-$19,000 fraud incident
Lawrenceburg Now
Officials with a Lawrenceburg bank filed a complaint with law enforcement officers last week, reporting thousands of dollars in loss due to a fraudulent check.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department responded to Employee Resources at 2135 North Locust Avenue where they spoke with an accounting specialists. They told officers that the incident had actually occurred in late December.
Bank officials said that they had received a check by mail from Online Bill Payment Processing Center. The check, for $18,900, was deposited into the account of a customer. They said that within two days, the customer had withdrawn all of the money and that afterwards they learned that the check was fraudulent.
Bank officials said they have made repeated efforts to contact the customer, but have been unsuccessful.
The incident currently remains under investigation through the police department's Criminal Investigations Division.
