Man sought in North Alabama triple shooting is found dead in Lawrence County

Authorities report that a man who had been wanted in connection with a triple shooting in North Alabama Friday morning was later found dead in Lawrence County.

Alabama authorities began searching for forty-nine year old Charlie Woods, Sr., at around 10:00 a.m. after learning that his wife and two sons had been shot at their County Road 130 home in Lauderdale County, near the Tennessee/Alabama border. They reported that Woods' wife, Elizabeth Jane Woods, died as the result of her wounds while sons Casey and Charles Bentley, were flown to Huntsville Hospital where they underwent surgery Friday.

Authorities report they have not yet determined why Woods opened fire on his family. They said that he made threats against other family members by phone, as well.

Authorities tracked Woods to the St. Joseph area, and report that his vehicle was found at a home in the Mount Nebo community. Police officers established a perimeter and conducted a search, eventually finding his body in a nearby wooded area. They report that he died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
