Driver arrested on DUI charges following Tuesday crash
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrenceburg Police officers report that a Lawrenceburg woman was arrested on DUI charges after becoming involved in two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening.
Officers were dispatched to investigate the crash at the Springer Road/East Gaines Street intersection at 6:19 p.m. Reports show that driver Tammy Smith, 45, of 405 Oak Street, had failed to stop at the traffic signal and crashed into another vehicle. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene to render medical attention for injuries sustained.
Witnesses reported that Smith had been driving erratically prior to the collision, failing to maintain a lane of travel. They reported that Smith had failed to stop even though the light was red.
Officers indicate that Smith exhibited signs of being under the influence of an intoxicant. Field sobriety tests were administered, however they report that Smith failed to perform satisfactorily. She was subsequently arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where she was incarcerated under a bond of $1,000.
In addition to the DUI charge, Smith was issued citations on various traffic infractions, including violation of the financial responsibility law, driving with an expired license, failure to yield at a traffic control device, and failure to exhibit due care.
Smith has been scheduled an initial court date of April 1, 2016.
