Trial underway in 2016 murder case
Lawrenceburg Now
Trial is underway this week in connection with the July 2016 murder of a Lawrence County man.
Yancey Williams, age 31, of Five Points is standing trial on charges of second degree murder in connection with the July 26, 2016 shooting death of Leoma resident Curtis Ezekiel “C.J.” Sirmones, Jr.
At that time, Williams told police officers that he had shot Sirmones during an argument at his 26 Mockerson Road, Five Points, home. Sirmones was found deceased from a gunshot wound near the front porch of the residence.
Williams was arrested on a charge of second degree murder at that time, and was indicted on the same charge by a Lawrence County Grand Jury in December of 2016. The case was investigated by agents with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Loretto Police Department, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities indicate that investigators with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were assisted on Friday by members of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department and Lawrenceburg Utility Services in retrieving alleged evidence from an abandoned well in southern Lawrence County.
A jury was seated to hear the case Monday morning. They heard opening arguments before being dismissed for the day. They returned Tuesday morning to hear evidence in the case. The trial is on-going at the current time.
