Belongings, Animals Stolen And Sold While Man Is Incarcerated
Law enforcement officials were asked to initiate an investigation Sunday when a Summertown man reported that thousands of dollars’ worth of his belongings, including his horses, were stolen and sold while he was incarcerated.
The forty-seven year old victim requested that Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies be dispatched to his Buie Road home at around 4:00 p.m. He reported that while he was incarcerated, an individual stole numerous items belonging to him.
He said that the missing items included: an Allis Chalmers tractor, ten-foot aluminum boat with trolling motor, yellow and black twin tank air compressor, two tool boxes filled with various tools, five cast iron skillets, four horses, a donkey, five saddles, and ten halters. Two of the horses, he said, were Tennessee Walking horses. Altogether, loss was estimated at $6,550.
The victim was able to identify a suspect in the case. He told deputies that his horses and donkey had been sold for a total of $200 and that the suspect had used the money to buy drugs.
The victim told deputies that the animals were at a property located in Mount Pleasant and that he had had noticed some of his belongings for sale at a flea market in Ethridge.
