Man Gets Drunk Before Surrendering Himself to Serve Jail Time
Lawrenceburg Now
An intoxicated man who came to the local jail to surrender himself to serve a forty-eight hour sentence garnered an additional charge after deputies discovered that he was intoxicated.
A Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputy reports that he had pulled into the parking lot at the sheriff’s department when he noticed the man sitting outside in a chair. He went inside and was informed that the man “might be intoxicated and was cussing at people.”
The deputy made contact with the man, identified as fifty-year-old Mt. Pleasant resident Nicky Wayne Calvert, and found that he did, in fact, exhibit signs of being intoxicated.
Calvert told the deputy that he had come to surrender himself to be imprisoned for forty-eight hours regarding a probation violation. The deputy asked him whether he had been drinking. Calvert acknowledged that he had, saying that “he thought it would be a good idea to get drunk before coming to turn himself in for the weekend.”
Calvert was arrested on a charge of public intoxication and incarcerated.
