Deputies serving warrants issue weapons charges
Lawrenceburg Now
|
A deputy attempting to serve a warrant recently ended up issuing charges against three other individuals who were found at the residence.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that the deputy went to 549 Iron City Road, Iron City to serve a warrant against forty-five year old resident Mark Stephen Gist for failure to appear in court.
When he arrived, the deputy reports that he could hear multiple persons talking inside the house, but that they refused to answer the door. Since the door was partially open, he pushed it further open and could see three people sitting in the living room. He reports that when they saw him, “they immediately started shoving something in the couch and throwing things around.”
The trio stopped moving around when the deputy ordered them to do so. He noticed a handgun when a female subject stood up from a recliner. He reports that he immediately had everyone to stand and show their hands, ordering them not to move. He checked the furniture for weapons and reports finding another handgun beside two men in the room. Everyone was detained while the matter was sorted out.
The deputy reports that all three males present were convicted felons and were therefore prohibited from having any firearms. He found that the serial number was indistinguishable on one of the handguns. Ammunition found nearby was seized along with the handguns.
Gist was arrested on the original failure to appear warrant. He and his companions, Jason Wade Williams, 28, of Killen, Alabama and Blain Lee Saint, 23 of Russellville, Alabama were each charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and altercation of items with permanent distinguishing numbers. They were transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center and processed without incident.
The female who was present, thirty-eight year old Ladonya Denise Johnson, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued in Colbert County, Alabama for introduction of contraband into a penal facility. She was transported to the jail where she signed a waiver agreeing that she would not challenge extradition to Colbert County.
