Two residents report identities used in fraud cases
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officials are looking into two recent incidents in which residents reported having their identities used to open fraudulent credit accounts.
In one incident, a thirty-one year old Lawrenceburg woman reported that she had been contacted about a Bluebird American Express credit card account that had been opened in her name.
She told Lawrenceburg Police officers that the account had been opened the same day she had been shopping in Huntsville, Alabama. Two transactions were reported on the account. One was a purchase at Louis Vuitton totaling $1,141.21. The second was a $2,864.07 purchase at Gucci.
In a separate incident, a fifty-nine year old local woman filed a complaint with police officers after she discovered someone had opened an account in her name at Office Depot. She said that she already had an account with the company, but that someone had used her identity to open another.
A total of $4,000 worth of items was charged to the fraudulent account. Business officials advised her that a third account had been opened in her name, but that no purchases had been made.
The cases currently remain under investigation through the police department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
