Lawrence County School System Kindergarten & Pre-K Registration

Kindergarten

School Registration

Registration for Kindergarten Enrollment for the 2016-2017 School Year will be held Monday, March 28th, from 8:00 a.m. -6:00 p.m. Registration will be held at the child’s zoned school for attendance.

The following documents are required for registration:

1) Certified Birth Certificate (If unavailable, a copy may be obtained at the Health Department for $15.00.)

2) Social Security Card (This will only be a visual; no numbers will be taken or recorded.)

3) Tennessee Department of Health Certificate of Immunization

Note: Students without the required immunization documentation (or exception documentation)will not be able to start school.

4) Proof of Residency such as a current utility bill with the parent’s name and address printed on it.

Age

Current Tennessee law states that children entering kindergarten shall be five years of age on or before August 15.

Physical Examination

Students entering school for the first time must have a complete physical examination. The physical examination must be no earlier than August 2015. If the student attended Pre-K in Lawrence County Schools, a new physical examination is not required.

Countywide Phase-In Period

The first few days of schools are used as a phase-in period for kindergarten students. During this time, students are screened on an individual basis, and the students attend school in small groups to become familiar with the school routines. Each school provides a calendar upon registration to show days and times for phase-in activities.

Pre-K

The Voluntary Pre-K Program serves at-risk children who are age four by Aug. 15 of the current school year.   The pre-K state statute specifies that each LEA is authorized to and may enroll any at-risk child who is four years old by Aug. 15 of the current school year and resides in the geographic area served by the LEA, with first priority given to those children who are deemed “economically disadvantaged.”

Lawrence County School System Pre-k will enroll children who qualify as economically disadvantaged per the Income Eligibility application and income guidelines set by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services.

Pre-Kindergarten students must provide proof of income OR proof of participation in one of the listed programs at the time of registration.  Proof of participation in  Early Head Start, Head Start, Foster Care, Homeless, Migrant, Food Stamps/EBT, TennCare, or Families First (TANF) may be used in lieu of proof of income.  All others should provide proof of income in the form of  W-2 Form, Income Tax Form 1040A or 1040, Pay Stub, Unemployment Compensation, Disability, Child Support, etc.

Needed at time of Pre-K registration….proof of income or proof of participation in listed program, and birth certificate. We will need their physical/immunization record before they start school.  It is not required at registration.
