Friday Crime Report
Lawrenceburg Now
Hit and run
Officers were summoned to Ponderosa, 1817 North Locust Avenue where the manager reported damage to water pipes. Reports indicate that a water spigot, water pipe and a sign had been struck by a vehicle. Sheet metal around the base of the pipe had been damaged, as well. The broken pipe was lying on the ground spewing out a considerable amount of water. Damages were estimated to be $1,000.
Theft
Officers were dispatched to Community Thrift Store on East Gaines Street where a customer reported that, while she was inside shopping, someone stole her purse out of her vehicle. The purse was later located and turned in at the business. The victim reported that she was able to recover most of her belongings, including $180 of the $300 cash.
Vandalism
The police department is investigating after the owner of a Lawrence Street home reported that someone had broken out a window on his property. Loss was around $50.
Theft
Officials with Walmart reported an instance of shoplifting. They reported that a woman had left the store with $549 worth of merchandise, without paying for it. Two security cameras, a thermostat, and spider wrap were the items stolen.
Theft
Prescription pills were reported stolen from a Crowson Road home. The victim reported that she had left a female acquaintance at her house while she was out. She returned to find that the pills were missing. Loss was estimated to be $13.99. The victim said that the suspect had already been booked into the Lawrence County Detention Center in connection with another theft case.
Fraud
A clerk at Dollar General, 902 North Military Avenue, filed a police report regarding fake money. She said that she was going to give change to a customer when she realized that a $5 bill had no security strip. She tested the bill and discovered that it was fake.
Theft
Tenants moved out of a Jackson Street home recently, taking with them the stove and refrigerator that belonged to the homeowner. The victim reported that one window had been broken, as well. Altogether loss and damages totaled $1,240.
