Nighttime trespasser at landfill is in possession of drugs, paraphernalia
Lawrenceburg Now
A woman found trespassing at the Lawrence County Landfill during the weekend was arrested after she was found to be in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department report that they had noticed someone in a red Chevrolet Tahoe driving down Baler Drive to the landfill at around 10:00 p.m. Saturday.
Officers parked across the street at the National Guard Armory to keep an eye on the situation. They report that after around 45 minutes a man pulled out in a Jeep Wrangler. When they stopped him he explained that he was an employee. He said that the person driving the Tahoe was one of their truck drivers and that he had last seen him speaking with a woman.
Officers checked with landfill officials and learned that no one should be at the landfill facility or around the trucks after hours. They then walked to the landfill office area to speak with the pair. They said that the man had the hood up on a truck. The truck was running and he was revving the engine.
When they spoke with the woman, officers report that she dropped a small item she had in her hand. They found that it was a plastic container. Inside they found approximately 4.2 grams of meth and twenty-nine 2 mg Xanax bars, small plastic bags and a straw used to inhale drugs.
The woman also had a backpack, inside of which officers found additional contraband, including a number of glass pipes, digital scales, s torch lighter, a tourniquet, and a large number of small plastic bags.
The woman was identified as thirty-eight year old Karen Michele Massey, who listed her address as “homeless.” Officers note that Massey claimed ownership of all of the contraband. She was subsequently arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center.
Massey was incarcerated under charges that include possession of Schedule II narcotics for the purpose of resale, possession of Schedule IV narcotics for the purpose of resale, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She has been scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on April 6, 2017.
