Loretto Man Charged With Murder After Hitting Girlfriend With Truck
A Loretto man was arrested on murder charges after he allegedly struck and killed his girlfriend with his truck on Thursday.
A press release issued through the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department Friday shows that deputies had been dispatched to the vicinity of Peppertown Road and Lexington Highway to investigate injuries sustained by thirty-six year old Kimberly Johnson Killen, age 36, of County Road 29 in Killen, Alabama. They found that she had sustained severe injuries and requested that members of the Emergency Medical Service be dispatched, as well. Killen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies summoned investigators to the scene along with members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol Critical Incident Response Team. They were able to determine that Killen had been struck by a vehicle.
A witness on-scene was able to provide investigators with a description of the vehicle along with a partial license plate number. The investigation soon led them to the 57 Peppertown Road home of the victim's boyfriend, thirty-six year old James Travis Murks.
When they arrived at Murks' home investigators found a white Chevrolet S-10 truck in the driveway that had sustained severe front end and windshield damage. They report that, "Evidence was collected and was consistent with the scene."
Murks was subsequently arrested on charges of vehicular homicide and first degree murder. He was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center without bond to await an appearance in General Sessions Court.
