Calf Shot, Killed In Owner’s Pasture
Lawrenceburg Now
A Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputy was called upon to investigate last weekend when a man discovered that one of his calves had been shot inside his pasture and killed.
The deputy responded to a property on Miller Lane just before 11:00 a.m. The victim, a fifty-seven year old resident of Weakley Creek Road, said that the calf had sustained a wound to the top of the back and that it appeared to be a gunshot wound. He asked that the deputy look at the wound to confirm.
The deputy reports that the single wound was situated in the center of the calf’s spine and did, in fact, appear to be a gunshot wound. The deputy noted, “The calf had to be shot while it was lying down to be hit in the location of the wound, and the offender most likely shot from the roadway.”
The deputy reported that there was no exit wound, and no other gunshot wounds were found. He checked the roadway for shell casings, but reports he found none. Loss was estimated to be $900.
Reports indicate that deputies had been dispatched to that area around midnight during the previous shift regarding shots being fired in the area. The area was checked but deputies did not find any suspicious activity at that time.
Anyone who has information about the incident should contact the sheriff’s department at 931-762-3626.
