TDOT Truck Strikes And Kills Pedestrian

A pedestrian was killed in the early hours Thursday when he was struck by a Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) vehicle on a roadway in the Iron City area.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol report that forty-two year old Jason R. Carter was struck and killed around 12:17 a.m. on McKinney Road. The TDOT driver, fifty-eight year old Randall Hammond of Ethridge, was reportedly traveling eastbound plowing snow at the time of the incident. Officials say they believe Carter was kneeling in the eastbound lane when he was struck.

The investigating officer, Trooper Phillip Long, reports that Hammond was uninjured and that no charges have been filed.
